Saad Dara is CEO of Mangrove Water Technologies Ltd., and holds a PhD (2020) in Chemical and Biological Engineering from UBC. Saad is an entrepreneur with a track record of taking research from the lab bench to a commercial scale and has raised $15M in grant and investor funding. He has led the technical and business development, fundraising, and strategy, while commercializing Mangrove’s technology with various large corporates.
George brings decades of experience in operational leadership roles from the water and power sectors. Most recently George was the COO of Organica Water, headquartered in Princeton, NJ, and offices in Budapest, Shanghai, New-Delhi, Jakarta. His portfolio of responsibilities included: Application Engineering, Process Engineering and Modeling, Project Management, PMO, Business Processes Development, Supply Chain, QA/QC, and IT. George was a coach, mentor, and a passionate player in establishing cultural alignment among the offices.
Francisco Velasco Davis has a proven record of success in commercial roles in leading blue-chip companies such as 3M, Walmart, Daimler, and SQM. He uses his experience in the chemical, energy, and automotive sectors combined with mangrove's revolutionary technology to help our customers achieve their financial and environmental goals. Francisco has a bachelor's degree in Business and finance, a postgraduate diploma in logistics and materials management from ITESO in Mexico, and an MBA from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
Vinod is a professional engineer with strong leadership experience of over 25 years in engineering and operations, local and international. He has worked in the chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas facilities, and engineering consulting firms. Vinod has managed and led teams in Process Engineering, Operations Engineering, Project Management, Plant Commissioning, Start-up & Turnaround Activities, quality monitoring & control, HSE activities, and Plant Optimization. He is a mentor, coach, and motivator with in-depth analytical and excellent problem-solving skills. Vinod holds a Master of Engineering degree in Chemical & Petroleum Engineering from the University of Calgary, Canada, and an MBA in Marketing from the University of Pune, India.
Alfred is an innovator, company builder and investor. He has 10+ years R&D experience in electrochemical systems, helped incubate and grow Mangrove and is currently a Partner at Chrysalix Venture Capital, an early stage industrial innovation fund that focuses on breakthrough solutions for large industries in transition. Alfred has held several board positions and is actively involved with Chrysalix investments in the areas of industrial wastewater treatment, carbon capture and utilization, energy and intelligent systems.
Richard joined the Mangrove board in 2017, and offers strategy, business development, operations and finance insight gained over the past three decades as an engineer, general manager and executive within both large, complex organizations and first-stage growth companies delivering services and technology. Richard served as COO and later CEO of environmental technology and process solutions provider Envirogen Technologies, Inc. from its formation through to its recent sale. Previously, Richard held roles within Siemens Water Technologies, Veolia and USFilter serving clients in a range of market verticals utilizing industrial water and hydrocarbon recycling products and services.
Dr. David Wilkinson is a Professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He is a co-founder and technical advisor for Mangrove Water Technologies, a company which was spun out from his research program. Before joining academia, Dr. Wilkinson was VP-Research at Ballard Power Systems, a global leader in fuel cell technology, and Moli Energy, a pioneer of rechargeable lithium ion batteries. He has 80+ issued patents and 180+ refereed journal articles covering research in these fields. He has received a number of awards and was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2020 for his contributions to electrochemical science and technology. David is a fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the Chemical Institute of Canada, and the Royal Society of Canada.
As a co-founder and a technical advisor to Mangrove Water Technologies, Dr. Arman Bonakdarpour has been instrumental in the development of Mangrove’s core technology. Arman obtained his undergraduate degree in physics and computer science (Hon., Co-op, UBC) and completed his graduate studies under Prof. Jeff Dahn (Dalhousie), where, as a Killam/NSERC/Sumner scholar, he co-developed an advanced method of combinatorial materials science. Arman has an extensive R&D background in clean technology sector covering diverse areas such as water treatment, CO2 conversion, advanced batteries and hydrogen energy technologies. His work has led to over 55 peer-reviewed and highly cited scientific publications and a number of patent/patent applications. At present, Arman is a senior research associate at UBC where he conducts research and is also involved in mentoring undergraduate/graduate students.
For the past several years, Steve has provided Mangrove with consulting services in both legal and business/management matters. Steve twice graduated from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California receiving both an undergraduate degree in Anthropology and three years later, his Juris Doctor. Steve has lived most of his adult life in Hawaii where he is currently the proprietor of both Business Law Center of Hawaii LLC and Island Diligence LLC, a business consulting company. Steve has also been employed by several mid-size U.S. corporations providing hi-tech environmental services where he performed in executive, management, and legal capacities.
