Mangrove Lithium has announced the appointment of David St. Angelo as its first Chief Technology Officer. As CTO, David will oversee and manage Mangrove’s technology development and commercialization. David previously served as CTO of Carbon Engineering, where he led advanced development, engineering, operations, intellectual property, and systems engineering teams.
“My goals for Mangrove include developing a world-class technical and operations organization and helping build the company’s first commercial plant. Mangrove’s game-changing lithium refining technology will be key to removing lithium supply chain bottlenecks and accelerating the energy transition.” said St. Angelo.
St. Angelo brings over 30 years of experience in sustainable technology commercialization, plant construction, techno-economic analysis, and technical operations leadership.
“David is an exceptional leader with a track record of successfully commercializing technology across the climate and sustainability sector. Mangrove is excited to welcome David as we further build out our leadership team,” said Saad Dara, CEO of Mangrove Lithium. “David’s decades of experience bringing new technology to market will be integral in successfully commercializing our technology.”
David’s other leadership experience in the climate and sustainability field include Senior Vice President at Joule Unlimited, Inc., Vice President of Engineering at Skyonic Corporation, and Vice President of Corporate Development at Valence Technology. He holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University and a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts.
About Mangrove Lithium
Mangrove is a lithium refining platform that uses a novel electrochemical technology to convert lithium sulfate and lithium chloride directly into a high purity battery-grade lithium hydroxide. Mangrove is able to refine lithium from a wide variety of feedstocks, including brine, hard rocks and recycled batteries, and allows for scalable operations to be co-located along the battery-value chain. This enables localized lithium refining at lower OPEX/CAPEX and unlocks a more robust and decentralized lithium supply chain.
Backed by BMW i Ventures, Breakthrough Energy and BDC, Mangrove was recently named a leading cleantech company by the 2023 Global Cleantech 100 List. The company is in the beginning stages of developing its first commercial plant in North America.
