Mangrove Lithium’s Saad Dara is featured in Sustainable Biz Canada for our pioneering work in clean lithium conversion and for pushing the boundaries of sustainability beyond the battery supply chain with our proposed replacement for clinker in cement production using waste byproducts from spodumene processing.
As we develop our planned 20ktpa lithium processing refining facility in Eastern Canada, we’re also tackling one of the most carbon-intensive industries on the planet: cement.
Alongside our electrochemical refining process, the facility will be processing spodumene concentrate, which produces a byproduct called delithiated beta spodumene (DBS).
Mangrove will be engineering this DBS byproduct by into a low-carbon substitute for clinker, a key ingredient in cement production. Clinker production accounts for over 90% of cement’s carbon footprint. By repurposing our byproduct, we aim to reduce emissions and create a circular solution that benefits both the clean energy and construction sectors.
This is more than waste reduction, it’s value creation across industries.
